Good Daily, which operates in 47 states and 355 towns and cities across the U.S., is run by one person in New York City.

This investigation uncovered hundreds of local newsletters that were using distinct website domains and newsletter names to conceal their shared ownership. My reporting proved the newsletters were run by one person using large language models (LLMs) to siphon content from established local newsrooms across the country without disclosing their AI usage to readers.

My reporting incited a cease-and-desist letter from the News/Media Alliance, the largest news trade association in the U.S. It also pushed national advertisers to pull their business and sparked follow-up reporting by local journalists in over a dozen states, including West Virginia, North Carolina, and Oregon. My open-source database of Good Daily’s newsletters has been used by researchers at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism and pink slime watchdog groups, among others. In February 2025, I appeared on Colorado Public Radio to discuss my reporting.
